Positively Kids Sib Shop – Education First Program
This program will provide tutoring services to siblings of children suffering from chronic and terminal illnesses in grades 3 – 12 and will be provided at NO COST to the family. Our preference is to provide the services in the home environment one-on-one with the tutor. The subjects are math, reading and science. The Problem
Imagine that you are the parent of one of the thousands of children born each year in Nevada who are classified as medically dependent or terminally ill. Think about the drastic lifestyle changes -- both emotionally and financially --your family now faces.
Our Mission
The Foundation for Positively Kids is a local Las Vegas based non-profit dedicated to developing services that can provide comprehensive care for Nevada's medically fragile and terminally ill children. The Foundation, along with the medical community, has identified critical needs for the development of advanced programs and facilities designed to care for these children and their families with special medical needs.
Sharing the need locally
Medically fragile children often require sub-acute nursing care following a hospitalization or during an exacerbation of their chronic illness. These children are chronically ill from birth with neurological, lung, cardiac, gastrointestinal and orthopedic disorders. Also post-trauma victims from near-drowning and automobile accidents often require sub-acute care prior to discharge to home. Children born with HIV and those born addicted to drugs may also need specialized care outside the hospital setting.
Nevada has no specialized pediatric nursing facilities. Currently, the options for these children are limited. They may be placed in an adult nursing home, remain in a hospital setting for an extended period, or be sent to a pediatric facility in another state to receive skilled nursing care or rehabilitative services.
The Solution
The Foundation for Positively Kids plans to develop a specialized pediatric program of care, focusing on the physical and psychological needs of children suffering from a life-threatening illness.
How you can help
The City of Henderson has provided the land for Nevada's first pediatric skilled nursing facility. The Foundation is raising approximately $30 million dollars to build the facility, which will be self supportive once open.
You can help make this a reality and keep Nevada's medically dependent children at home, where they belong. Your tax-deductible donation will assure Las Vegas' medically dependent and terminally ill kids get the treatment they require in-state, and help make our community a better place to live. Thank you for your support.
Home Health
Home Health Services include skilled care such as administering medication, caring for children who require feeding tubes and/or breathing tubes, and teaching caregivers the skills needed to provide care for their special needs children.
Alternative Compatible Therapies (ACT)

Skilled Respite
Skilled Respite Services provide a licensed professional in the home to assist with care and relieve parents and other caregivers of the stress arising from taking care of a special needs child - bestowing a gift of time.
Medical Daycare
Medical Daycare is a comprehensive educational, socialization and recreational program where children with and without disabilities learn, play and grow together. This inclusive environment promotes diversity and helps children and adults learn to accept and value each other's differences.
Medical Wraparound
Our Medical Wraparound Program provides families of medically dependent children with training and support, enabling them to keep their child at home rather than in a hospital or long term care facility.

What is Early Intervention?
Birth through two years of age is a critical time in a child’s development. Medical and educational studies, along with the personal experiences of families, show that a family-centered program of support and services can make a difference in a child’s future.
This process is known as Early Intervention. Trained professionals are eager to support parents in helping babies learn all they can. The earlier services are provided to children with developmental delays, the quicker their families get the support and training they need, therefore providing a better start in the child’s life.
How does my child qualify for Early Intervention?
If your child is aged birth through two years and is experiencing a developmental delay, or has been diagnosed with a physical or mental condition that has a high likelihood of resulting in a delay then your child may qualify for Early Intervention services.
Where Does Early Intervention Take Place?
Our main goal is to provide services in the child’s natural environment, such as the child’s home, day care, babysitter’s home, hospital or a combination.
